Returning to the source of Solidarity Water Europe

The Solidarity Water Europe network was created during an European forum entitled "Water, source of citizenship, peace and regional development", held in Strasbourg from February 12 to 14, 1998.

The result of a joint initiative of the Interantional Secretariat for Water and the Committee on the Environment, Regional Planning and Local Authorities of the Council of Europe's Parliamentary Assembly, the forum led to the adoption of a framework declaration, the "Strasbourg Declaration".

Solidarity Water Europe draws its main source of inspiration from the principles of this declaration, whis was tabled in Paris in March 1998 at the International Conference on Water and Sustainable Developement.

On June 15, 1998, the Solidarity Water Europe network became an officially registered association governed by section 21 throught 79 of the Alsacian Civil Code pursuant to the Act of june 1, 1924 of the French Republic.
